Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, today released a statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to block President Trump’s tariff authorities under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
“The Supreme Court today decided what Democrats, business owners, and consumers have been stating all along: the President’s tariffs under IEEPA are illegal.
“It is unfortunate, however, that for over a year, Americans have been forced to bear the brunt of these unnecessary taxes on their groceries and basic goods. And now, the President’s retaliatory announcement of a 10% global tariff will make a bad economic situation even worse. From the beginning, it was clear that the Trump tariff wars would cause chaos, confusion, and harm. But he did it anyway, costing families their hard-earned money. How Americans budget their pocketbooks shouldn’t be determined by the impulsive whims of a single President.”
