Rehoboth Beach, Del. – U.S. Senators Lisa Blunt Rochester and Chris Coons and U.S. Representative Sarah McBride (all D-Del.) today joined Beebe Healthcare for the ribbon-cutting of Beebe’s expanded mobile health clinic. The delegation celebrated the $3.3 million in total federal funding they secured for this project and others at Beebe, all designed to improve community health in Sussex County.

“I am thrilled that we have been able to deliver over $3 million for Beebe Healthcare, which is a critical partner in providing care to all who call Sussex County home,”said Senator Blunt Rochester, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. “From expanding Beebe’s mobile health clinic to supporting their work to combat substance use disorders, the federal investments secured by the delegation will help meet patients where they are and create a healthier Sussex County.”

“It’s more important today than ever for health care providers to find effective ways to meet the people where they are when they need care most,” said Senator Coons. “I’m proud to have secured federal investment in Beebe’s mobile units to help them meet the needs of Delaware’s most vulnerable, provide care, and save lives.”

“Investing in quality health care across Delaware—especially in our rural communities—remains a top priority for our congressional delegation,” said Representative McBride. “Beebe’s Mobile Health Fleet was created by listening directly to community needs and made possible by a strong public-private partnership. This fleet will help Beebe continue to bring essential services—from everyday care and behavioral health to harm-reduction support and social services—directly to residents, delivering care with the hope and dignity every person deserves. These community-driven efforts are building a healthier Sussex County, and I’m proud to support their efforts as we work to make affordable, accessible care a reality for all Delawareans.”

“This mobile health fleet represents more than advanced medical vehicles – it is access, dignity, and hope for residents throughout rural Sussex County who cannot access needed healthcare services,” said David A. Tam, MD, MBA, CPHE, FACHE, President & CEO, Beebe Healthcare. “Thanks to the vision and support of our federal delegation and other philanthropic partners, we can meet people where they are, remove barriers to care, and create healthier communities across Sussex County.  Beebe Healthcare stands ready to transform how rural health care is delivered.”

The Congressionally Directed Spending secured by the delegation since fiscal year 2022 include:

  • $680,000 to purchase three new vehicles for Beebe’s mobile health clinic, which provides behavioral health, primary care, social care, onsite testing, and supportive services to residents of Sussex County.
  • $1,165,000 to establish Beebe’s Community Harm Reduction Services project, which provides community-based harm reduction services, behavioral health, and primary care services to some of the most vulnerable and under-resourced communities in Sussex County.
  • $1,500,000 to support the continued growth of the Graduate Medical Education program of Beebe Healthcare, which required the construction of a new facility in Long Neck, Delaware, for education and practice.
