Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) celebrated the passage of legislation to establish a partial claims program at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill would protect veterans and active-duty service members currently at-risk of foreclosure and the loss of their homes.
H.R. 1815, the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, included provisions from legislation authored by Blunt Rochester and U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.). The included provisions would increase the amount of the partial claim benefit available to veterans, provide additional assistance in the face of major disasters, and expand flexibility for the administration of the program. The bill passed the Senate by voice vote.
“Everyone deserves a place to call home, especially the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our freedom,” said Senator Blunt Rochester, a member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. “In an uncertain time for the VA partial claims program, this legislation provides added protection to help keep veterans in their homes, regardless of the challenges they may face. Our bipartisan work to protect our vets must not stop here. We must find a viable, lasting solution for supporting our veterans and keeping them housed—they deserve nothing less.”
