Lewes, Del. – In case you missed it, U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) spent the day on August 13 in eastern Sussex County to highlight the local impact of the federal investments she is fighting for in the U.S. Senate.
“Especially as we gear up to go back into session in September, it is critical that I hear directly from Delawareans about how I can best serve them,” said Senator Blunt Rochester. “I am grateful to the Coast Guard, the Town of Milton, and Children’s Beach House for hosting me. The investments we make in Washington have an impact here at home, especially in Sussex County. I look forward to continuing to work with my local partners to secure more resources for the First State.”
As the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Coast Guard, Maritime, and Fisheries, Blunt Rochester visited U.S. Coast Guard Station Indian River. She met with station command to receive an in-depth briefing about the work the Coast Guardsmen there do and took a boat ride with members of the unit. Blunt Rochester recently led her first Subcommittee hearing in which she investigated the impacts of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing on the United States.
Blunt Rochester then traveled to Milton to meet with Mayor John Collier and Town Manager Kristy Rogers at Lago Asian Cuisine and Sushi Bar to discuss their continued partnership to help Milton thrive.
Blunt Rochester later went to Children’s Beach House (CBH) in Lewes. Blunt Rochester supported CBH’s Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request which they submitted to her office, and she is fighting for. The requested $500,000 in federal funding would fund several capital improvement projects to ensure the building is safe and welcoming for the communities CBH serves. CBH was founded in Lewes in 1936 to address the most pressing needs of Delaware children.
