Washington, DC – Today, Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement:

“House Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Bill” is nothing more than a big ugly tax giveaway for the ultrawealthy while everyday Americans pick up the tab. According to extensive analysis, the top five percent of Americans will get a $1.5 trillion tax break while the rest of Americans will see their everyday costs soar by thousands of dollars.

“The Trump agenda would cut billions in Medicaid funding, taking away health care for nearly 14 million Americans, with 8.6 million becoming uninsured because of this bill alone.  This would also shutter hospitals nationwide, especially in rural communities, and 40,000 Delawareans alone would lose their health care coverage. Taking away health care from our children, people with disabilities, and families is not just negligent, it’s morally bankrupt.

“Families relying on food assistance will also be at a loss, with nearly 11 million people expected to see cuts to SNAP. This, coupled with inflation and the administration’s cuts to food bank funding, will raise costs for Americans already struggling to put food on the table.  To put it simply: this administration is taking away health care, taking away jobs, and taking away food from American families.

“I have talked to countless Delawareans in my state who are scared in this moment.  As this bill heads to the Senate, I urge just for of my Republican colleagues to muster up the courage to reject these awful proposals and protect their constituents from this dangerous bill.”
